Penn Badgley Isn’t One to Gossip, But …

“There is a lot of change on the horizon,” says actor Penn Badgley, sounding more like a carnival fortune-teller than one of the newest members of hot young Hollywood. But Badgley, who plays Dan Humphrey on the CW’s Gossip Girl, has reason to tread carefully when discussing the show’s upcoming second season.
Although Gossip Girl does not bring in big ratings, the teenage soap opera is an online phenomenon. Its fans are a fiercely devoted and savvy group who swarm its New York set, then scrutinize findings and photos on the inordinate number of blogs dedicated to recapitulating the show’s episodes. Having only 18 episodes to choose from after the debut season was cut short by last year’s writer’s strike, Gossip Girl groupies are foaming at the keyboard, so to speak, for more drama to dissect.
“We’ve only gotten the first three scripts, and I don’t know how much I can reveal contractually,” Badgley continues. “But I think no matter what fans are divided over—whatever couples they like and all that stuff—they’ll all be happy because there is pretty drastic change from season one as far as relationships go. Thinks are shaken up a bit.”
On a season finale that left a nation of tweenagers (and adults who temporarily feel like such) desperately texting over the future of lovebirds Dan and Serena, Badgley offers only this: “Over the summer, Dan’s been doing a lot of pontificating over Serena, and he finally gets a resolution there.” As for what else is in store for his character, the 21-year-old actor says Dan will explore his “Chuck Bassian side,” a reference to the calculating Chuck Bass character, whom Badgley describes as “a grimy, dirty individual.”
Plot lines are not the only topic on which Badgley has learned to be guarded. His relationship with on-screen love interest Blake Lively was well-documented over the summer, each new paparazzi photo of Read full article.

Taylor Momsen juggles modes as a ‘Gossip Girl’

Taylor Momsen was the subject of a long New York Observer piece last month. For those of you avoiding “Gossip Girl,” which returns at 7 tonight on the CW, Momsen is identified as the real “it” girl from the show. She plays the de facto villain, Jenny. Taylor, who just turned 15, finds herself the object of love and scorn from people well into their 20s.

“It’s funny because I forget that I look the same — you know, that I look the same all the time,” she said as she ate “Pinkberry” yogurt covered in Fruity Pebbles. “I have two different modes: I have my on-set mode, and then I have my mode with my friends and family. My Taylor mode. And when I’m in my Taylor mode, I forget that people still see me as Jenny.”

The second season, which starts Sept. 1, has aspiring fashion designer Jenny working as an intern for designer Eleanor Waldorf, who — of course! — is the mother of chief rival Blair (Leighton Meester).

‘GG’ returns with teens, sex and the city

With its impossibly good-looking cast, a parade of candy-colored designer fashion and provocative ad campaigns, it’s easy to dismiss the CW’s “Gossip Girl” as just another sexed-up, youth-oriented product to step off the TV drama assembly line.

There are certainly similarities between the show and its teen soap predecessors, particularly “Beverly Hills, 90210.” “Gossip Girl” is also set in an affluent ZIP code, Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and features an ensemble of archetypal characters, including the social outcast and the pretty-boy rebel with great hair. Its female leads, Blake Lively, who plays reformed bad girl Serena van der Woodsen, and Leighton Meester, who plays conniving socialite Blair Waldorf, even bear a strong resemblance in looks and character to Jennie Garth’s Kelly Taylor and Shannen Doherty’s Brenda Walsh.

But “Gossip Girl” - which returns for its second season Monday at 8 p.m. on the CW/11 - represents a distinct step beyond “90210″ and the teen dramas before it, starting with the show’s sophisticated use of point of view. Its rarefied world of youthful excess and angst is observed through the eyes of a mysterious blogger, the unseen yet ubiquitous Gossip Girl. The show deftly intertwines irony with authenticity, poking fun at itself while also commenting on the voyeurism and sensationalism driving the culture right now.

Visually, its depiction of New York City satisfies every last urban fantasy, and the city can’t help but love it back. New York magazine went so far as to call it “the greatest teen drama ever” in a recent cover story. And in the final measure of its success, “Gossip Girl’s” popularity has sparked the CW to resurrect and reinvent, yes, “90210″ this fall. The show, said co-creator, writer and executive producer Stephanie Savage, “is a story, but it’s also a platform for ideas. I think people like the Gossip Girl connection. The idea of people watching and talking about each other is something that’s very real to their lives.”

Found! Blake Lively’s Chambray Shirtdress

Just because Gossip Girl Blake Lively has hit instant fame doesn’t mean she can’t still shop on a budget. She can and she did recently with this Alpinestars Chambray Shirtdress ($68) she wore on her way to The Late Show With David Letterman. The bodacious blonde is really into casual shirtdresses, but considering the weather is warm and her body is hot, I can’t blame her. I like how she rolled up the sleeves and went unbuttoned for an effortless feel. The dress could use some ironing, but since it’s a casual style, it works.

Serena Is Lying Again

Serena Is Lying Again
You can’t fool us, Van Der Woodsen.

Blake Lively emphasizes her squeaky-clean goody-two-shoes–ness in the current Cosmo, much to our (and probably Cosmo’s) annoyance. “I was class president, on the cheerleading squad, in a competitive show choir, and in, like, six different clubs,” she says primly. “I’ve kissed just three people in my life, other than stuff that I’ve done for TV or movies..I don’t drink. I don’t do drugs.” Annoying. It’s like she’s purposely trying to make us think she and Serena are two different people. What’s she going to tell us next, that she never shops at Barneys or never makes strange, orgasmic faces whilst making out with Penn Badgely? Well, ha. We know for a fact that she does do those things. Also! She is totally lying about the drinking! How duplicitous! And how like Serena.

Gossip Girl’s’ Chuck is the boy you love to hate

Last season on “Gossip Girl,” teenage playboy Chuck Bass tried to force himself on 14-year-old Jenny, take advantage of bad-girl-gone-good Serena and succeeded in deflowering his best friend’s girlfriend, the scheming socialite Blair.
