He plays the ever-arrogant Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl and rocks out with his band, The Filthy Youth, but Ed Westwick has a surprising sensitive side — and a way with words.

“I’ve been writing a lot of poetry recently,” Westwick, 21, revealed to PEOPLE during a launch party for Coca-Cola’s new aluminum bottles at New York City’s Soho Grand. “It helps me think and work things out.”

Westwick shared a poem from memory that he wrote “at like six in the morning.”

Resident Gossip Girl bad boy Ed Westwick celebrates his 21st birthday at TAO Night Club inside the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas on Friday.

So after the Chace Crawford and JC Chasez rumors, we now have rumors of Chace and Ed hooking up! Chace’s camp have denied the rumors, saying, “These endless rumors are absolutely untrue.”

We’ve made no secret of our love for Chuck Bass/Ed Westwick on this blog, so we’re thrilled to wish him a very happy 21st birthday today! Recent pics taken in the Hamptons like this one make it look like Ed’s having a good time:

Over the past year, Ed’s made us major Chuck fans. Can you imagine anyone else playing Chuck? We adore his smarmy-but-sexy ways, his rule-breaking fashion sense, and his one-liners (”I’m Chuck Bass”). He started out as a witness to the Blair/Serena/Nate triangle… until he fell for Blair, and we saw his vulnerable side thanks to Ed’s talented acting.

Chuck might not always have a great relationship with his dad, but in real life, Ed’s a family guy — check out People’s adorable shot of him with his parents. He’s got a lot going on these days — gigs with his band, The Filthy Youth, shoots in the Hamptons, and hanging out with pal, castmate, and roommate Chace Crawford in NYC.

Turning 21 is probably somewhat anticlimactic for Ed, since the drinking age in the UK is much younger, but he still has plenty of reasons to have a drink. We hope he has a great birthday celebration tonight with friends and family — maybe he’ll celebrate with his Gossip Girl castmates!

I have a secret to share with you… I have a bit of a crush on Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass a.k.a Ed Westwick. He isn’t too good-looking like Nate, and too… well, good like Dan, so it must be because he is bad. Hey, I wouldn’t be the first girl in history.

Nevertheless it’s his geek-chic/preppy style that really makes me smile. Only someone like Chuck could get away with such colourful threads, even if yes, the bow ties are a bit much sometimes. That’s why when I saw this picture of him filming in the Hamptons, I had to take a second glance… I had seen those argyle socks somewhere before. Then it hit me - is Chuck Bass the new Carrie Bradshaw?

Um … 6? Well, what are we talking, we’re not talking proper kiss, right? Okay, 6 and … 10. No, is that bad? Should I say 11? I’m pure and innocent.

2. Who’s your celebrity crush?
Scarlett Johansson — she has been for a while, and always will be. I love her style.

3. What’s a girl fashion trend that confuses you?
None. As long as it’s done the right way, I think it’ll be attractive. It’s not about what it is, it’s about who’s wearing it. From my limited knowledge of women’s fashion, everything is pretty good.

4. What’s the girly movie you secretly love?
There was a really good one, but I can’t think of it.
